Clayton Kershaw takes one step closer to return after impressive first rehab start

Los Angeles Dodgers veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw has moved closer to his return. Kershaw is yet to pitch this season and the Dodgers can use some firepower in their starting rotation, especially after Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were sidelined.

However, Kershaw's 2024 MLB might take longer as he just started his first rehab. The 10-time All-Star underwent shoulder surgery last year during the offseason. Since then, Kershaw has been taking things slow. Kershaw's return is expected to be huge for the boys in blue.

In an interview posted by Dough McKain of the Dodgers Nation, Kershaw opened up on his first rehab performance. The starter was impressed with his progress in his first start after surgery.

"There's a ton of value in doing rehab starts. It's just no fun, the pitches that you throw you want to make it count in the big leagues." Clayton Kershaw said. "It's something you gotta do, they make it great here for me. Family came out and it was a great experience so far."

Kershaw pitched three innings and surrendered one earned run, giving up two hits. He recorded five strikeouts and walked one opponent hitter.

"Checked off a lot of boxes. First time in a game setting and all those things. It was fun to get back out there. I haven't done that in a while. As long as every thing comes out tomorrow fine. I think I'm on for the next one." Kershaw continued.

Clayton Kershaw expected to return in July

Clayton Kershaw was anticipated to return in August. However, with his constant improvement, the veteran is expected to return in July. While there is no particular date for his return, Dodgers fans are eager to watch their star pitcher take the mound again.

According to manager Dave Roberts, Kershaw's progress has been quick. Roberts appreciated the pitcher's mindset and work ethic to get back in the game.

“He’s much further along than we expected. He’s unique in his body and mentality and mindset, the work ethic and all that," Roberts said.

Kershaw has been one of the best pitchers for the club. Getting back to form will also help the Dodgers with their performance in the postseason.
