Manager Dave Roberts announced that Clayton Kershaw will be removed from the injured list, with a projected start date of Thursday. He will be facing the San Francisco Giants on his return, especially after striking out two batters in a 67-pitch outing.
Kershaw recently completed a successful rehab assignment, demonstrating strong command despite surrendering three runs over four innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Fabian Adraya of The Athletic has reported on Roberts' statement on Kershaw's update.
"Clayton Kershaw will come off the IL and start on Thursday, Dave Roberts said. Then Tyler Glasnow starts on Wednesday," Adraya wrote.
Even Kershaw talked about his recovery and performance at the Triple-A Oklahoma City. He stated that if the Dodgers call on him, he's ready to get back on the field.
"I want to be a part of it, want to be one of the best five guys we have," Kershaw told reporters afterward, via KVUE's Cory Mose. "Obviously right now, we're in a bit of dire straits, we need to hold on a little bit... if they need me now, I’ll be ready."
Kershaw has not pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers since November, as he was recovering from left shoulder surgery and his ligaments around the ball-and-socket joint.
Tyler Glasnow will also join Clayton Kershaw
The Los Angeles Dodgers received a welcome reinforcement on the pitching front as Tyler Glasnow is set to make his return from a brief stint on the injured list. The right-hander is slated to start Thursday's game three against the San Francisco Giants.
The 30-year-old was lights-out before his back tightened, boasting a stellar 3.47 ERA and a career-high 143 strikeouts in 109 innings pitched. His presence at the top of the rotation instantly bolsters a pitching staff that has leaned heavily on young pitchers throughout his absence.
“[The break] probably can’t hurt. I was feeling good, I was feeling confident either way that I was going to be able to throw a lot of innings,” Glasnow said. “But it is definitely helpful.”
While the return of Clayton Kershaw, another key player on the Dodgers' injured list, will provide a veteran steadying presence later in the week, Glasnow's return is the more immediate boost. His ability to overpower hitters with his fastball will be a welcome sight for the Dodgers team.
Tyler Glasnow last pitched for the Dodgers back on July 6th and then landed on the 15-day injured list because of back tightness.
