While Clayton Kershaw is in rehab preparing for his 18th season in the MLB, his wife Ellen reaveled that last year was the toughest period in Kershaw's career so far.

The Los Angeles Dodgers star missed the first half of the season due to a shoulder injury and made only seven starts before a foot injury ruled him out for the year. On the ALOHO podcast, Elle spoke about her husband's struggles with injury last year:

"I would actually probably say it was this past season. He had gotten surgery for the very first time last offseason, so he was coming off of recovering from soulder surgery and finally had been activated.
"It was like, in July and it had been such a long time coming and he was a part of this phenomenal team with incredible energy and talent. So he started pitching and felt something in his toe and foot started hurting. ... It was so deflating, we had been working so hard to recover."

She added:

"So I watched him go down. Like basically, it happened, and him walk off the field and I knew that he was done for the season. And that was such a sobering reality."

Ellen then explained how they decided to see it through despite the challenge and how it helped them get to where they are now:

"He just finished surgery. He got it on his knee and his plantar plate. He's been on crtuches for about five weeks. His plan is to do full rehab and get back for next season, and he can.
"I'll tell you what, if we had ever taken this sport or our health for granted. We sure don't need more. We have this whole new renewed appreciation. ... Each one of Clayton's starts, I literally relish in it."

Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen started dating in high school and have been together since then. Since being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006, she has been by Clayon's side through all the ups and downs. Since tying the knot in 2010, the couple have welcomed four children.

At the tail end of an illustrious MLB career, Kershaw has had injuries in the past few years. While he may have suffered through the toughest period of his career, he's now focused on returning to action next season. Having declined his option to extend with the Dodgers, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for him in 2025.

MLB insider shares latest update on Clayton Kershaw free agency

While Clayton Kershaw's future in the MLB may look uncertain, insider Jon Morosi claims that the pitcher's story is written with the Los Angeles Dodgers:

"We expect that he will be a Dodger for life. There is no open market about different teams calling, really, for Clayton Kershaw. No. 22 is gonna finish his career with the Dodgers."

Despite Morosi's confidence in Kershaw's reunion with the Dodgers, nothing is certain until a contract has been signed. Should he return from injury next year, there may be other teams interested in his serivces.
