Former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter attended the 2024 Reserve Cup Series games. Miami hosted the three-day Reserve Cup from January 23 to January 25, where Jeter served as one of the celebrity captains.
On Monday, Derek Jeter shared a picture from the event with the caption:
“Great weekend with @reservecupseries @reservepadel”
In the image, Jeter is seen posing alongside professional padel players Alejandro Galán and Arturo Coello. Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler is also present with Jeter.
Butler serves as an honorary chairman and co-captain for the event. The other team captain alongside Jeter is comedian Andrew Schulz. The Reserve Padel was founded by CEO Wayne Boich, who, in addition to being a businessman, is a former junior tennis player.
During the event, Jeter was asked about his interest in padel, to which he said (via Forbes):
"I'm still trying to define my role with the Reserve Cup. I met Wayne years ago and a couple of years ago he started to explain his vision for the Reserve Cup. I've seen it come to light, and last year, we had his first Reserve Cup.
"Wayne asked me to be a part of it and be one of the captains of the team, so I was all in to support Wayne and what he's doing and the growth of the sport that he's really responsible for. It plays a big part. To me, it means a lot to Wayne, so I couldn't be happier to be a part of it."
Derek Jeter congratulated former teammate Ichiro Suzuki on Hall of Fame induction
Former outfielder Ichiro Suzuki was inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Suzuki, who played alongside Derek Jeter from 2012 to 2014 as a member of the New York Yankees, received heartfelt congratulations from his former captain.
On Wednesday, Jeter shared photos of the two together and captioned the post:
“The model of consistency. Congrats Ichi on election to the MLB HOF!”
Ichiro Suzuki earned 99.7% of votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America in the balloting process, falling just one vote short of a unanimous induction.
