On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers offense failed to score any runs against the Washington Nationals at their home stadium. The Dodgers faced a 2-0 defeat from the Nationals.

In the first inning of the game, CJ Abrams hit a homer. At the same time, Joey Meneses’ sacrifice fly enabled Jesse Winker to score, allowing the Nationals a 2-0 lead, which they maintained until the end.

The Dodgers’ offense got blanked for the first time this 2024 season, the last time happening against the Cincinnati Reds in July 2023.

During the offseason, the franchise spent loads of money on top players. After seeing such a performance from them, Dodgers fans are not happy.

Fans voiced their frustration about the loss against the Nationals who didn’t bring much of an offseason spark.

“Embarrassing! Losing a series to Washington. Nationals payroll 109 million,” a fan wrote.
“Y’all spent over a billion this offseason just to lose a series at home to the nationals and get shutout,” another fan said.
“Ya know, if this is going to be one of our annual slumps, it’s good that we’re getting through it early in the season. Enough already, though. Time to wake TFU! Padres are now one game behind us,” a comment reads.

Many other fans slammed the high spending of the franchise, unable to see results that justify the hefty investments:

“All that money for this listless team. Another National League West championship incoming,” a user wrote.
“Good outing for Knack. Now where is that billion-dollar offense?” someone said.
“We look average at best something has to change,” a Dodgers fan wrote.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost five of their last seven games losing two consecutive series to the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres, both at the Dodgers stadium.

Dodgers' Landon Knack struggled in debut against the Nationals

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Landon Knack recorded his first loss in his debut game against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. During five innings of play, Knack gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four batters.

“I had a little bit of nerves going. I was excited but had the nerves just kind of sitting in there. Then, back end of the inning, we started to calm down,” Knack said (via MLB.com).

Last year, playing for both Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, Knack performed well in 22 starts recording a 2.51 ERA and 99 strikeouts.
