Freddie Freeman has been dealing with a sprained ankle during the postseason. He suffered it at the end of the regular season but has not been on the bench for prolonged periods of time. He has been on both the NLDS and NLCS rosters, and he's on the World Series roster as well.
Ahead of the Game 1 matchup Friday night, Freeman — who was out for the clinching Game 6 of the NLCS — said that he feels like he's benefitted from the days off.
Bob Nightengale reported:
"Dodgers 1B Freddie Freeman, who sat out of Game 6 in the NLCS with his sprained ankle, is confident he'll be good to go in Game 1 of the World Series after the off-days."
The lineup has not yet been set versus the New York Yankees. It won't be until around 3 or 4 pm EST in advance of the 8 pm EST first pitch. However, Freeman believes he will be in the lineup. He's been hobbled in games before, but having not played since Sunday night has done him well.
Freddie Freeman deepens a dangerous Dodgers lineup
The Los Angeles Dodgers scored 10 runs in the clinching Game 6 win over the New York Mets without Freddie Freeman. Max Muncy, who has played the position for Freeman at times this postseason, was the first baseman. If Freeman is out, which is unlikely, Muncy would slide over again.
The lineup from Sunday began with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez. Freeman would likely slot into the cleanup spot where he hit in Game 5. If he does, the top of the lineup is going to be that much harder for starter Gerrit Cole to navigate through.
Freeman was 0/5 in that game and has seven hits in 32 at-bats during the postseason, but he's a dangerous hitter who has World Series experience from his time with the Atlanta Braves. The Yankees would prefer for him not to be in the lineup, but the time off seems to have given him all the rest he needed to be ready for Game 1 tonight.
