New York Yankees have received some good news as starting pitcher Gerrit Cole's rehabilitation from injury continues on a steady pace and looks like he will avoid surgery.

The reigning AL Cy Young winner is out of action since suffering an elbow injury during Spring Training, and his progress has been closely monitored by the Yankees.

On Wednesday, Cole completed his first back-to-back throwing session since the injury, which is a huge positive for the team's staff.

Gerrit Cole started his major league career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013 after being selected by them in the 2011 MLB Draft. He soon established himself as an elite pitcher and was traded to the Houston Astros in 2018, where he stayed for only two seasons. He was then signed by the Yankees ahead of the 2020 season and has been a regular in their rotation since then.

Despite winning several individual accolades over his career, the Cy Young award had always eluded Cole until last year, when he finally won the award for the first time. Despite a poor season for the Yankees, the pitcher was the only silver lining for them and he is yet to make an appearance this season.

While elbow injuries can be a serious concern for pitchers, Cole's progress looks encouraging. Having thrown on two consecutive days for the first time since his injury in spring training, it looks like he will be back in action before long.

Aaron Boone refuses to give an exact date on Gerrit Cole's return

Gerrit Cole's progress in rehab has been a positive news for the New York Yankees but manager Aaron Boone is not getting ahead of himself yet.

While providing a positive update on Cole's rehab from his elbow injury, Boone said that there is no set date that has been decided as of now. Despite moving in the right direction, it seems that there is still much progress to be made before he is ready for MLB action.

Nonetheless, they will be hoping to have him back in the mound by June if Cole doesn't face any further issues.
