The 2025 MLB Draft Lottery was conducted on Tuesday with the younger brother of Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday, Ethan, projected to be the no. 1 overall pick next year.
Former All-Star first baseman Sean Casey recounted an experience with his son Jacob, the two Holliday brothers, and former Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad last year. Casey was highly impressed with the younger Jackson after he outshone everyone else in a batting practice session they shared together at the time.
On The Mayor's Office with Sean Casey podcast, he gave his thoughts on the younger brother of Jackson Holliday [17:17 - 18:39]
"Ethan Holliday is probably going to be the No. 1 pick," he said. "When I went out to hit last year with Jake to the Hollidays, it was me, Ethan, Jackson, and Heston Kjerstad. If you just closed your eyes and looked from afar, you didn't know who anybody was. The best bat of this group. It was Ethan.
"He was a junior (in high school) at the time," he added. "He's legit. He's a nice kid. Great family. They're just great people."
Ethan and Jackson are the sons of former seven-time All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday, who won the World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
Jackson Holliday's younger brother expected to follow in his footsteps
Jackson Holliday was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2022 MLB Draft. His younger brother Ethan is expected to repeat the feat next year.
Following his father and brother, the 17-year-old graduated out of Stillwater High School, Oklahoma, this year. Standing at 6-foot-4, Ethan Holiday is a power-hitting shortstop with the defensive versatility to fill in at third base. He's set to join Oklahoma State for college, although that looks quite unlikely, as he's certain to sign up for a major league team after the draft.
Meanwhile, Jackson Holliday made his MLB debut after spending just two years in the minor leagues. He endured a terrible start and was sent back to AAA a few times before making a strong comeback in the last two months of the regular season.
He played 49 games in August and September, batting .219/.287/.351, with 10 extra-base hits, four home runs and 18 RBIs.
