The Los Angeles Dodgers could soon be receiving some reinforcements in the form of Clayton Kershaw. The club icon has been working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery and has his eyes set on a comeback to the rotation sooner rather than later.

"Clayton Kershaw is BACK. The @Dodgers lefty and 3-time Cy Young Award winner returns to the mound following offseason shoulder surgery and strikes out 5 in his first rehab start for the @RCQuakes!" - @MiLB

The future Hall of Famer underwent a procedure to repair the glenohumeral ligaments and capsule in his left shoulder. Since the procedure, Clayton Kershaw opened the season on the IL but has been working his way back to the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching rotation.

Not only has Kershaw been working hard to get back into the rotation, but he is seemingly ahead of schedule. The 36-year-old has already begun a minor-league rehab assignment, throwing 3.0 innings while racking up 5 strikeouts on 36 pitches. This outing left Dodgers manager Dave Roberts impressed not only with Kershaw but the entire training staff who helped him reach this point.

"Dr. ElAttrache, Clayton, the rehab guys, the training staff, everybody deserves all the credit," Roberts said of the team that helped Kershaw during his recovery. "He's blown through this."

Clayton Kershaw's impending return comes at an important time for the Dodgers

While Kershaw remains on track to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers' rotation at some point in July, his addition to the MLB roster could not come quickly enough. The Dodgers pitching staff has been ravaged by injuries and bringing back a superstar such as Kershaw could go a long way to ease the burden on the rotation.

The Dodgers have a number of starting pitchers currently sidelined with various injuries. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Michael Grove, Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, and Tony Gonsolin are all sitting on the IL with a variety of different ailments. Kershaw's return might be more important than ever for manager Dave Roberts.
