New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge is putting together an MVP-caliber season in his team's pursuit of a postseason berth. However, the Yankees star has an unlikely challenger in former MLB All-Star Jose Canseco.
Former Rookie of the Year and two-time World Series winner Jose Canseco retired from baseball almost two decades ago. But the controversial MLB star remains bullish about his abilities.
In the inaugural episode of the "Off My Chest Sports Show," hosted by the former MLB slugger and The Loopy Blogger, Canseco challenged Aaron Judge for a home run duel.
Canseco issued the challenge with cash in his hands, saying:
"Aaron Judge listen, I'm 60 years old. Do you think you can hit a baseball further than I can hit a softball? Don't forget who I am and who I was. You are 6 foot 7, 280 lbs, I'm a 60-year-old man, Do you think you can actually beat me?"
"He's scared," Canseco commented on the Instagram post with the clip.
Canseco made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics in 1985 and established himself as one of the most feared hitters in the game during his glittering stint with the A's. However, his legacy was tainted after the six-time All-Star admitted to PED usage following his retirement.
Meanwhile, Aaron Judge leads the charts for home runs in the 2024 season and added a 37th homer to his tally during Saturday's thrilling win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Jose Canseco has challenged Aaron Judge in the past
This isn't the first time Jose Canseco has challenged the Yankees captain. Following Aaron Judge's record-shattering 2022 season when he broke the AL record for most home runs in a season, Caseco issued a bold statement on X, formerly Twitter.
"By the way Aaron judge I can still hit a softball further than you can hit a baseball anytime you want to find out contact me," Canseco wrote.
He compiled another post for the reigning AL MVP in 2023 while showing off his swings in practice.
"Aaron judge I am getting ready for you let's see if you can hit a baseball as far as I can hit a softball I doubt that very much let me know when you're ready we'll do the competition for charity"
Canseco's animosity for a Yankees player is not new as the former Athletics player has time and again hurled jibes at Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez. Canseco mocked Rodriguez on the occasion of his 49th birthday on Saturday.
