Baseball Hall of Famer and legend Willie Mays, considered one of the finest baseball players, died on Tuesday. He breathed his last at the age of 93 due to heart failure.
Known for his speed and power, Willie Mays was a cultural icon. The day before he died, Mays had announced that he wouldn't attend the San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals game in Alabama, which was honoring him and the Negro Leagues.
He began his career with the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues. Major League Baseball paid tribute to the legendary player expressing their sorrow and acknowledging his legacy on X/Twitter.

Willie Mays was a two-time MVP and won the World Series with the San Francisco Giants in 1954. His famous catch in the 1954 World Series is one of baseball's most iconic moments.

Michael Mays, Willie Mays' son revealed that his father died while surrounded by his family. He thanked fans for their continuous support (via AP News):
"My father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years. You have been his life's blood."
Willie Mays was nicknamed the "Say Hey Kid" and was the oldest living Hall of Famer in baseball. During his 23 seasons in Major League Baseball, mostly with the New York Giants and later the San Francisco Giants, Mays hit 660 home runs.
