Gavin Lux and the Los Angeles Dodgers started the second game of their three-game series with the Houston Astros on Saturday at Minute Maid Park. The opening game saw Lux going 2 for 3 in the Dodgers shutout 5-0 loss.

Shohei Ohtani and Will Smith started Saturday’s game with flyouts in their first at-bats while facing Astros starter Ronel Blanco. Shortly after, Gavin Lux took the plate and was hit by a pitch on Blanco’s 93.7 mph Four-Seam Fastball.

Lux’s teammates especially right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly were furious after the incident. Kelly can be seen yelling toward the Houston Astros from the bullpen saying:

"Hey P****."

Joe Kelly’s anger was quite evident as they had already seen one of their key players being held back due to a hit by a pitch. Last month, the Dodgers' eight-time All-Star Mookie Betts suffered a left-hand fracture due to an HBP in a game with the Kansas City Royals.

However, Lux seems to have avoided any noticeable injury scares. After being hit by a pitch Lux continued and went on to the first base.

Gavin Lux’s RBI single contributes to the Dodgers leading by 5-2 against the Astros by the sixth inning

Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Cavan Biggio started their 1-0 lead with his RBI double in the second inning. Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani scored another run with his 443 foot in the third inning.

Ohtani’s homer was his 32nd of the 2024 season and is just behind Aaron Judge who is leading the league in home runs. Gavin Lux also contributed to his team’s lead with an RBI single in the fifth inning, allowing Nick Ahmed to score.

Following Lux, Teoscar Hernandez also hit an RBI single allowing Ohtani to reach home plate. In the sixth inning, Ohtani hit a single scoring a run giving the Dodgers a 5-0 lead.

The Astros finally woke up in the sixth, bringing in two runs on Yainer Diaz and Jeremy Pena’s RBI singles. It remains to be seen if the Houston Astros will be able to overcome the Dodgers' lead. At the time of writing the Astros tied the game 6-6 in the eighth.
