The MLB has released its player rankings for the most mentioned stars on social media in 2024. Like Spotify's Wrapped Lists, the MLB provided insight into which superstars have been the heart of conversations all year.

It may come as no surprise that three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani tops MLB's player rankings regarding social media mentions. From signing a record-breaking $700,000,000 deal to his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara allegedly stealing millions of dollars and his historic 50-50 season, this might be no surprise.

That said, some fans were surprised by the rest of the results. Following Ohtani were Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman and Bobby Witt Jr. Although these are easily some of the best players, many were surprised by the player rankings results, especially regarding Paul Skenes.

Even though the Pittsburgh Pirates phenom took the league by storm, earning the National League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star selection, it makes some sense that he is behind some established superstars. That being said, fans can't wrap their heads around the number of Los Angeles Dodgers players that appeared on the MLB's player rankings.

"No f***ing way Yamamoto and Hernandez are in the top 10," another fan tweeted.
"Ippey walked so Ohtani could run," one fan tweeted.

It will be interesting to see if the MLB will continue to publish these types of player rankings moving forward or if it was simply a plan to highlight Ohtani's iconic season.

It will be interesting to see if Shohei Ohtani will top the MLB's player rankings heading into 2025

Although the Japanese superstar topped the MLB's most-mentioned player rankings, it will be interesting to see if he will be labeled the top player in baseball heading into 2025. Last season, Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was dubbed the top player heading into the 2024 campaign thanks to his NL MVP-winning season.

Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani have been linked to one another throughout their careers, however, where will the MLB go when making their power rankings for 2025? After posting 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, and winning a World Series, it might already be secured that Ohtani will top the rankings heading into 2025.
