Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Jason Heyward was put on a 10-day injured list, and Taylor Trammell was called to fill his place.
In a recent SportsNet LA interview, Heyward expressed optimism about his ongoing rehab session but did not give a timeline for his return as he did not wish to rush his recovery process. Upon his return, Heyward felt he would be playing on a day-to-day basis.
“[My] Back is progressing nicely. I can't give you a timeline. I don't know when or what that's going to be on the day-to-day for sure,” Heyward told SportsNet LA.
“It is April and you don't want that to linger on through the rest of the year. So right now, while I have a chance to take the time and get it right," Heyward said.
In the four games played this season, Heyward recorded three hits, which gave him two RBIs. He had a dull spring training with only a single RBI in 10 games
Dodgers undecided on outfield choices
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a strong infield with All-Stars like Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani as designated hitters. However, they seem to struggle with their outfield lineup, which often changes.
The team's latest offseason addition, Teoscar Hernandez, has been playing the most games. Meanwhile, other outfielders like Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez and James Outman are getting picked on an irregular basis.
The team also added a new option, Taylor Trammell, who debuted as a pinch runner in Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Although he has yet to appear at the plate, the 25-year-old could potentially replace the veterans on the field when needed.
Since the Dodgers are still undecided on their outfield department, Jason Heyward's 15 seasons of experience may come in handy once he returns to the game in full health. Additionally, like last year, Betts might also come to the outfield for a few games if the situation demands.
