Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman recently made an appearance on the podcast "New Heights" and shared how his father helped him manage his injuries in the postseason. The World Series MVP battled through a fractured rib and a sprained ankle over their postseason run on the way to the second championship of his career this season.
Speaking to podcast hosts Travis and Jason Kelce, Freeman shared that he received a call from his father Fred in the middle of the night, who was upset at him playing through a serious injury.
"I got a call from my dad at about 11 o’clock at night & had a talk... That was the first time I really took a step back." (starting at 10:15)
Freddie Freeman and the Los Angeles Dodgers had high expectations ahead of the 2024 MLB campaign and they delivered on every front. Freeman played through several injuries during the postseason run and eventually went on to win the World Series MVP.
While still recovering from a fractured finger, he sprained his ankle in the final days of the regular season and was nursing it throughout the playoffs. He then suffered an injury to his ribs during practice in the postseason but still managed to pull through.
Freeman sat out the next game and decided to take a step back to evaluate the situation rationally after his father called him after Game 3 of the NLDS, upset about him playing through injuries. It was ultimately worth it, as he went on to put up one of the best performances ever seen in the World Series and win his second championship.
