The Tampa Bay Rays were one of the most active teams at the trade deadline, moving on from several of their veteran stars in order to reload for the future. The club traded away some of its most proven veterans last week, including Randy Arozarena, Isaac Paredes and Zach Eflin.

Even though the Tampa Bay Rays are within striking distance of an American League wild card spot, the front office decided to move on from some of their most high-priced players. While these types of moves normally represent a long rebuilding phase in the near future, this is not necessarily the case for Tampa Bay, at least in the eyes of manager Kevin Cash.

"I'm excited about the guys we acquired," Cash said during a recent interview on MLB Network Radio.
"A lot of tough decisions that Eric and our front office had to make," the Tampa Bay manager said of the moves made by the front office staff, while also showing his faith in the choices. "Everything they do is with the intent of making us a good organization and deep organization."

Some of the newly acquired players that Cash shared his excitement about included former Chicago Cubs slugger Christopher Morel, Hunter Bigge and veteran outfielder Dylan Carlson.

"He landed, got to the park, said hello in the second inning, and was in the game for the third inning," Cash said of the team's new outfielder Dylan Carlson's debut with the team.

Christopher Morel has been impressive already for the Tampa Bay Rays

While the majority of the trade made by Tampa Bay landed the club several prospects, the most surprising move of the deadline came with the Chicago Cubs. Tampa Bay's front office sent All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes to the Cubs in exchange for Christopher Morel along with pitchers Hunter Bigge and Ty Johnson.

Since the deal, Morel has already established himself as an important part of Tampa Bay's lineup. The 25-year-old has already smashed a pair of home runs in the two games he has played for his new club. While fans may miss Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes, Morel has the tools to make them move on quicker than expected.
