During his career, Jose Canseco kept fans constantly entertained through a mixture of on-field brilliance and off-field antics. Now, over two decades since he closed the book on his MLB career, Canseco is never more than an arm's reach away from controversy.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Canseco took to his X to issue his latest opinion. According to the six-time All-Star, Derek Jeter is "the most overrated shortstop in MLB history."

"Derek Jeter is the most overrated shortstop in MLB history" - Jose Canseco
While this is far from Canseco's most controversial social media post, his attack on the former New York Yankees shortstop incited quite a reaction. Within minutes, comments came flooding in defending Jeter and condemning Canseco's view.
A 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, many believe Derek Jeter to be among the best shortstops of the modern day. A .310 career hitter, Jeter won five World Series with the Yankees, a Rookie of the Year Award, and 14 All-Star nods. Though many associate him with the polarizing Yankees, fans of all stripes defended the 1992 first-round draft pick.
"The sky is reportedly blue," mocked a commenter.
"Sorry Jose but no," added another.
"That’s the statement? No facts or other context?" remarked another puzzled fan.
Additionally, a hint of irony was not lost on several fans. Many brought up Jose Canseco's admitted steroid usage over the course of his career. Despite winning the 1988 MVP Award with the Oakland Athletics, Canseco's known juicing has prevented him from ever coming close to Hall of Fame induction.
"Says the dude that had to juice it up to get his stats," claimed a fan.
"Says the guy who juiced his entire career," chimed another.
"Imagine if he took steroids how overrated he’d be," was a final jibe.
Jose Canseco's social media thrives on provocative commentary
Now well into retirement, Jose Canseco keeps busy by sharing his opinions on X. In recent weeks, the former MLB icon has taken aim at Donald Trump, the American School System, Shohei Ohtani, and the MLB All-Star selection process.
However, as is the case with much of the "shock-jock" commentators on social media, fans have come to expect this kind of content from Canseco. Nevertheless, this take from Canseco did seem to ruffle slightly more feathers than is usual.
