With mere days remaining until the 2024 US Election, Kamala Harris is in overdrive. However, despite the Vice President's full schedule, she and her husband Doug still found time to congratulate Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on winning the World Series.
In a video posted to her X account on Friday, Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff called Dave Robers, and his wife Tricia. Although the VP conceded that her campaign schedule prevented from watching the games live, she promised the LA skipper that she was "rooting for the Dodgers all the way."
"Congratulations @Dodgers," Kamala Harris captioned her X post.
Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, self-identifies as a hard-core Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Although he was born in Brooklyn, the Second Gentleman relocated with his family to southern California at the age of 17. A lawyer by trade, Emhoff and Harris married in 2014. He has two children from his previous marriage while the Vice President does not have any of her own.
During the Dodgers' decisive Game 5 against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, Kamala Harris was campaigning in Wisconsin alongside band Mumford and Sons. Although she was unable to watch, Emhoff admitted that he kept tabs on the game throughout the night, and wrapped up the event in time to watch the club rush the field in victory.
"WALKER BUEHLER STRIKES OUT ALEX VERDUGO AND THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS ARE THE 2024 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS," Jack Delperdang posted on X.
A Senator from California before assuming the VP role in 2021, Harris is locked in a tight race with former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate. The last time the Dodgers won the World Series - in 2020 against the Tampa Bay Rays - Donald Trump was defeated in the election less than a week later.
Kamala Harris gears up for her own World Series showdown
With many polls placing the race as too close to call, both Harris and Trump will spend the next few days campaigning aggressively. Right now, both camps can only hope for the right combination of luck and preparation to ensure victory. As Roberts said to Emhoff and Harris during the call:
“Madam Vice President, good luck on Election Day.”
Certainly a divisive election that has seen both sides resort to personal attacks, nobody can predict what the next week will hold. At least Doug Emhoff, a Dodgers fan since his adolescence, got to see his club win another title.
