Fans reacted as the MLB Network's list of top 10 right fielders in the sport ranked newly signed New York Mets star Juan Soto in third spot. The outfielder, who signed a 15-year $765 million, which is set to compound to more than $800 million, was ranked behind the New York Yankees' Aaron Judge and Houston Astros' Kyle Tucker.
The MLB Network's Shredder's list released the top 10 players in each position ahead of the 2025 season. The rankings are based on many metrics, both offensive and defensive.
Sot retained his No. 3 position from last year, when he was ranked behind 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. and Kyle Tucker. This year his 2024 teammate, Aaron Judge, who's expected to shift to the corner outfield has taken the No. 1 spot with Tucker keeping his place.
That brought out varied reactions from the baseball community. Some fans feel that the list is biased against Juan Soto because he joined the Mets.
"I guarantee if Soto was still a Yankee, he’s at number 2," one said.
"Soto is a Met now so of course he’s moved down the list but if he were a Dodger or still a Yankee he would be #1," another had the same opinion.
"This is a rage bait list no chance it’s real," one wrote.
Others tried to troll Soto for being ranked lowly after getting the biggest sports contract in history.
"$800 mill for the 3rd best at the position is hilarious," one posted.
"Soto has played 0.0 innings for the Mets and their fans are already crying bout an arbitrary list lmaooooooo," another made fun.
"$800 million for the third best right fielder?," one fan had a similar reaction.
Francisco Lindor and Mark Vientos excited to have Juan Soto joining the Mets
At the New York Mets' annual fan fest 'Amazin' Day' on Saturday, mainstays Francisco Lindor and Mark Vientos offered their thoughts on how they felt about the 26-year-old Juan Soto joining their system. They said:
“I was happy and I also said, ‘Damn!’ ” Lindor said. “It was great. I was happy for him and his family as well as the organization."
“It’s like a, ‘Hey pinch me, I’m dreaming,’ type of feeling,’ Vientos said. “It’s sick that I’ll be able to get the opportunity hopefully.”
The Mets' batting lineup is stacked with Juan Soto, Lindor, Vientos, Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte and Jeff McNeil. They have been long linked with re-signing Pete Alonso as well.
