Christmas is just around the corner, and everyone in MLB, including the New York Mets, is already in the holiday spirit. The Mets' official account took to X on Monday to share holiday wishes with their fans.
The clubhouse shared a clip showcasing some of their 2024 season highlights with the caption:
“Happy Holidays, #Mets fans!”
The video featured several players, including Francisco Lindor, and highlighted iconic moments from the past season.
However, the ending was what truly caught fans’ attention. The clip concluded with the Mets’ newest acquisition, Juan Soto, who signed a record 15-year, $765 million deal. Appearing in the team’s uniform, Soto said:
“Can’t wait to be part of that. Happy Holidays”
Fans were thrilled after watching the clip and quickly shared their reactions:
“Can you imagine if this is how the Soto signing was announced?” a fan said.
“Soto at the end was a nice touch,” another wrote.
“Was waiting for Juan Soto to pop up. Was NOT disappointed LFGM” another fan wrote.
Another fan replied "Omg" along with a pic of Soto in a Mets jersey.
One notable absence Mets fans couldn’t help but notice was star first baseman Pete Alonso, who became a free agent after his one-year, $20.5 million contract with the New York Mets expired following the 2024 season.
Several fans urged the Mets to re-sign their superstar:
“This video without Pete feels way wrong. RE-SIGN Pete!🐻❄️,” a comment reads.
“Happy holidays - now sign Pete and make it the best Christmas ever!!!” another comment reads.
Juan Soto opens up about his decision to sign with Mets amid high demand from teams
This past 2024 season with the New York Yankees, Juan Soto had a stellar performance, achieving a .288 batting average, hitting 41 homers, driving in 109 RBIs, and posting a .989 OPS. The 26-year-old drew interest from several teams, including the Yankees, but ultimately chose to sign with the New York Mets.
Discussing about his decision, Juan Soto said (via MLB.com):
“It took ’til the last second. There were five teams that were bidding big time, and they were showing me a lot of stuff. They were showing me a lot of love to come to their city, to their team.”
Ultimately, Soto was sold by the Mets' vision of long-term success.
“What they’ve been showing me, what they want to do is [make] this team a dynasty and win for a long time,” Soto said. “So I think, ‘Why not?’”
On December 11, the New York Mets and Juan Soto finalized a blockbuster 15-year, $765 million contract deal.
