Dodgers powerhouse gear up to travel to Arlington for the All-Star game

Dodgers All-Stars Will Smith, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani took a private jet flight to Arlington, Texas, from Detroit, Michigan, for the 2024 MLB All-Star game on Tuesday. LAD completed a three-game series against the Tigers on Sunday immediately, after which the designated All-Stars left for Globe Life Field.

The Dodgers have at least five players selected as All-Stars this season. Despite several of their stars being on the injured list, the LAD have a 56-41 record heading into the All-Star break and are atop the NL West standings. While Mookie Betts led the charge in April, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith and Teoscar Hernandez have carried the offensive baton since then.

Shohei Ohtani has led the offensive stats for LAD this season, as he has paid back every penny invested in him this past offseason. Freeman and backstop Will Smith have played the perfect second fiddle to Shotime's might on the plate. Ohtani has a batting average of .316 with 29 home runs, 69 RBIs and 1.036 OPS.

Freddie Freeman has a batting average of .291, with 14 home runs, 61 RBIs and a.887 OPS. Will has been one of the best catchers in the big league this campaign; he has a batting average of .272, with 15 home runs, 55 RBIs and.838 OPS.

Ohtani will be starting as the DH from the NL All-Star team, while Freeman and Smith will be on the bench as reserves and will play part in the Midsummer Classic as per manager Torey Lovullo's decisions during the game.

Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers have continued to pile on a consistent record before the All-Star break

For a fifth straight year, the Dodgers are sending more than five ballplayers for the All-Star game and for the 10th consecutive time, they are heading into the All-Star break with over 50 wins in the season.

Their consistency over the years have been highly praiseworthy, but their lack of seeing out highly contested postseason games have been a problem in recent seasons.

The onus for a deep postseason run will not only be on the shoulders of Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts or Teoscar Hernandez. The entire roster has to maintain a perfect health and keep chipping in with decent performances on either aspect of the game for the second half of 2024 season.
