As Trevor Bauer continues his quest for an MLB contract, he is not letting the offseason get away from him. Recently, Bauer's agent Rachel Luba took to Instagram to post a slew of photos from northern Europe.
The pair was in Sweden visiting Koenigsegg Automotive AB, a high-performance sports car manufacturer in the town of Ängelholm. Judging by their snaps, it appears as though Bauer selected the Gemera, a plug-in hybrid that can reach 100 kilometers per hour in 1.9 seconds.
A graduate of UCLA and Pepperdine Law School, Luba is the youngest certified female agent in baseball. Shortly after founding Luba Sports in 2019, Trevor Bauer became her first agent. The 32-year-old was instrumental in landing Bauer's $17.5 million 2020 contract with the Cincinnati Reds - the largest arbitration-eligible deal in baseball history.
Prior to the 2021 season, Luba negotiated a three-year, $102 deal for Bauer with the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, in June of that year, when Bauer was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA, sexual assault allegations surfaced against him, and he was placed on the restricted list.
Although Bauer was never charged - and the accuser was found to be largely falsifying her claims - MLB still banned the right-hander for 194 games in late 2021. The winner of the 2020 Cy Young Award with the Reds, Bauer spent the 2023 season in Japan's NPB before signing with Mexico's Diablos Rojos for the 2024 campaign.
"Trevor Bauer pitched 8.2 innings yesterday while striking out 19 hitters in the Mexican league. Absolutely insane. Yet MLB doesn’t want him back in the league…" - Baseball King
Now a free agent, Bauer continues to call on MLB teams to give him a chance. So far, no club has engaged with the provocative pitcher.
Trevor Bauer continues war with MLB
Ever since his suspension, Bauer has been at war with MLB and commissioner Rob Manfred. Despite saying he will play for the league minimum, the interest has been mute. This caused Bauer to take to X over the summer to accuse the league of operating behind the scenes:
"One team told me I was ‘too expensive’ even though I offered to play for minimum, another team told us they have covered some stuff up in the past that they don’t want the media digging into to find out about…"
Like him or not, Bauer is an incredible sportsman who has proven himself. Whether he will get another chance remains to be seen.
