Is the Mets and Dodgers clash facing rain delay? Weather forecast, rescheduled time and more

The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers were slated to start their three-game set on Monday, May 27. Not every MLB team was scheduled to play, as many had off days for Memorial Day. The Mets and Dodgers did not, at least until bad weather came to town.

The eastern coast is being hit by thunderstorms and has been since late Sunday night. That has continued into the holiday, and it has resulted in the postponement of the Dodgers-Mets matchup.

The Dodgers had already announced their lineup for the day as they were attempting to reverse a five-game losing streak. Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman were again atop the lineup as they hoped to find better footing on a trip to New York.

Unfortunately, they will not be able to stop the losses today. They will resume play tomorrow and try to avoid the weather and complete their matchup. The Mets have struggled this year to the tune of a 22-30 record and will look to take advantage of the struggling Dodgers.

Mets and Dodgers to play doubleheader in makeup

Fortunately, these two teams won't necessarily have to sacrifice an off day later in the season to make this game up awkwardly in between other series. Instead, they will have a day-night doubleheader tomorrow at Citi Field.

The Mets announced on X, formerly known as Twitter:

"Today’s game against Los Angeles (NL) has been postponed due to weather. The contest will be made up as part of a single admission doubleheader tomorrow, Tuesday, May 28, 2024, beginning at 4:10 p.m."

They will resume play on Tuesday at 4:10. Once that game concludes, they will play a second game shortly after. The series finale remains scheduled for Wednesday. This will likely impact pitching decisions and possibly lineups.

Both teams could use a series win. The Dodgers have improbably lost five in a row, including a sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets have been disappointing again in 2024, and they are eight games under .500 and buried in fourth in the NL East.
