Although few expected otherwise, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman have been two of the very best players for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. On Tuesday, Freeman praised the other-worldly capabilities of his teammate.
In a recent interview for ESPN with Jeff Passan, Freeman was asked about the experience of playing with Ohtani. Freeman, a former MVP winner in his own right, did not mince words. Speaking of Ohtani's style of play and raw talent, Freeman said: "It’s hard to even comprehend.”
Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman have been nearly unstoppable for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. In addition to his league-best 30 home runs and 78 runs scored, Ohtani's .633 slugging percentage and 1.033 OPS also lead the NL, while his 243 total bases lead MLB.
Since coming to the Dodgers as a free agent after a decade with the Atlanta Braves, Freeman has also seen his numbers jump. Over the past three seasons, Freeman has hit .320/.405/.530 for LA with 66 home runs and 268 RBIs.

The pre-existing offensive skill of the Dodgers was undoubtedly a factor that led to Ohtani's exit from the Los Angeles Angels for a record-shattering signing with the team. Over the past three seasons, no other team in the MLB has scored as many runs as the Dodgers have.
Despite being together for under a year, both Ohtani and Freeman appear to have forged a unique friendship with one another. With the Dodgers eyeing a postseason berth, that relationship will only grow closer in the weeks and months ahead.
Freddie Freeman has always thought highly of Shohei Ohtani
Even before Ohtani joined the Dodgers, Freeman — one of the best players in the world — admired the Japanese star from afar. At the 2023 All-Star Game, Freeman said of his future teammate:
“I know what it takes to be a hitter in this game and he’s doing that every single day and then to turn around on the fifth day to pitch and hit on the same day? I don’t understand it. I really don’t. I can’t comprehend it."
Over a year later, Ohtani continues to do things that Freeman ceases to comprehend. When the 30-year-old returns to the mound at full two-way capacity, watch out for even more of his teammates to share their mesmerization.
