Brandon Nimmo and the New York Mets were disappointed after a shutout 4-0 loss against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. The Mets, who entered the three-game series after plonking the Colorado Rockies for 14 runs in their last two games, have gone two games without scoring against the Mariners.

Veteran Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo shouldered some of the blame after his team's second consecutive shutout loss against the Mariners.

"I expect more of myself and I'm working at it every day. It's just not good enough. I'm one of the leaders on this team. I'm supposed to come through, I'm supposed to do better, and I'm not," Nimmo said.

Nimmo, averaging .231 this season with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs, has been a shadow of himself since the All-Star break. The 31-year-old has managed just three RBI over his last 20 games.

Despite the loss and the team managing just four hits on Saturday, Nimmo didn't panic over the team's recent hitting rut, asking for more urgency at the plate.

He said:

"There has to be a difference between urgency and panic. If you panic, you might as well throw your cleats down and let's go home right now. If you have a sense of urgency and you guys understand that each game is very important, which this group does, they're not throwing away any games."

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza credits the Mariners' pitching staff amid team's hitting woes

While Brandon Nimmo blamed his own slugging performances, managing just one hit in his last three games, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza gave the Mariners pitching staff its flowers after Saturday's loss, saying:

"You got to give them credit. They got a good pitching staff and we knew that coming in. And then tomorrow, we got to find a way to beat another good arm. Guys will be ready and we'll try to salvage the series tomorrow."

The New York outfit has been one of the most resurgent teams since June after an underwhelming start to the season. The players will hope to keep their spirits intact by avoiding a series sweep against the Mariners while also keeping their postseason hopes alive. They currently trail the Atlanta Braves by 0.5 games in the race for the final wild card spot.
