New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga is looking to return to the mound and make his 2024 season debut. The crafty righty has been down on the IL since the start of the season with a shoulder strain.

Senga has been working through a throwing program and was spotted playing catch at Citi Field on Wednesday. He threw his second bullpen and will have two more, per manager Carlos Mendoza.

The session reportedly went well, but it will be some time before Senga can return. The club has already ruled out a first-half return. Expect to see him following the All-Star break.

Given how the Mets have performed this year, there is not much hope left. They are already 17.5 games behind the NL-East-leading Philadelphia Phillies, with their 28-37 record.

"Just shut him down its over" - one fan posted.
"Who cares at this point?" - posted another.
"Good grief Charlie Brown" - posted another.

Fans do not see much of a point in Kodai Senga returning at all. The club is in the gutters and the fanbase is over it.

"He’s been throwing for months.. At this point sit him out" - said another fan.
"That senga playing catch 2024 highlights is gonna hit" - posted another.
"We do not care" - posted another.

There was a ton of hype surrounding this team coming into the new season, but that quickly died down. It looks like another year where this club will be sellers at the trade deadline.

Kodai Senga was great in his first season in the big leagues. Through 29 starts, he compiled a 12-7 record with a 2.98 ERA over the course of 166.1 innings of work.

Senga was the new ace after the Mets traded Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at last year's trade deadline. So, it was a major blow when Senga landed on the IL during spring training.

It is tough for teams to rise above expectations without their ace in the rotation. However, the New York Yankees have done well with Gerrit Cole injured.

It will be interesting to see how the team moves over the next few weeks. With the MLB trade deadline set for July 30, this team could look a whole lot different.
