Team Korea and the tournament’s underdogs, the Czech Republic, will face off this Saturday in the Tokyo Dome in what will be both teams’ third game in the World Baseball Classic.
Korea will enter the field feeling under pressure to win after consecutive defeats to Australia and Japan. The East Asians must put on a strong performance and win this match as well as the Pool B championship match against China if they want to advance to the second round.
Czech Republic, despite being a mostly amateur team, beat China 8-5 in their debut, which added to their fan appeal status for this tournament. The European team is participating in the World Baseball Classic for the first time, and are aiming to make history against all-pro teams.
