As the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history, Freddie Freeman's big fly in the tenth inning of Game 1 will not likely be forgotten anytime soon. However, for one young fan, the occasion will be that much harder to forget.

According to a piece by Helen Jeong in NBC Los Angeles, the young fan - named Zachary - who caught Freeman's ball was duped into getting to the ballpark. According to Jeong, Zachary's parents tricked their son that they were going for a dentist's appointment, before redirecting themselves to Dodger Stadium for Game 1.

"The 10-year-old kid who caught Freeman’s walk-off grand-slam ball didn’t know he was going to the game until he got to Dodgers Stadium. His parents told him he was going to the dentist." - Matt Ford

Ten innings later, Freeman crushed a fastball from New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes right to where Zachary and his parents were sitting. Upon hearing about the unlikely tale of Zachary and his family, fans took to social media to have their say.

For Freddie Freeman, the home run was his third in as many games. After hitting yet another home run in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 4-2 win over the Yankees in Game 3, Freeman tied a record by becoming the second player to homer in five straight World Series games.

"This is why baseball is the best game ever!" - observed a fan
"What a cool story. October baseball is something else. Love it." - was another remark
"That’s awesome. What a great memory for that kid." - came another reflection

The winner of the 2021 World Series as a member of the Atlanta Braves, Freddie Freeman and his club now hold a commanding 3-0 lead over the Yankees. Seeing as only one team in MLB history has come back from such a defecit, it looks like Freeman and the Dodgers will soon be bringing the Commissioner's Trophy to LA.

"What a great day" - wrote an onlooker
"I need to get a new dentist." - joked a fan
"those are cool parents" - came a final voice of support

Dodgers are riding Freddie Freeman's bat to World Series glory

A .333 hitter with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs in three games thus far in the World Series, Freddie Freeman's teammates know the former MVP's ability to turn around games. As third baseman Max Muncy told MLB.com about Freeman after Game 3:

“We went to Freddie several times and said, ‘We got you,’ during these last two series, this is Freddie saying, ‘I got you,’ this time. It’s been fun.”

Freeman and the Dodgers are now just a few well-timed swings away from another World Series title.
