One of the biggest names remaining in free agency is Alex Bregman. The two-time World Series champion remains without a contract despite coming off another strong campaign. Last season with the Houston Astros, he posted a solid .260 batting average with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs while also earning a Gold Glove Award for his work at third base.

Even though he has yet to sign a new deal somewhere, that has not slowed down any rumors and speculation about where Bregman might sign. According to MLB insider Bruce Levine, the Chicago Cubs are not only a potential fit but have reportedly already reached out to Bregman's agent, Scott Boras.

It's been a big offseason already for the Chicago Cubs, who have already acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, while also adding the likes of Carson Kelly, Vidal Brujan and Caleb Thielbar. After Levine reported that the Cubs could look to add Bregman, a number of fans took to social media to share their opinions on the potential blockbuster move.

"I’ll take matt Shaw over a cheating loser I’m good," one fan posted.
"I’d rather Pete Alonso," another fan shared.
"Damn so y’all ain’t gonna give Matt Shaw a chance?" one more fan added.

Although there are some fans who would prefer the Chicago Cubs explore some of the team's internal options, others have pointed out that signing a player like Alex Bregman could be a game-changer.

"This move wins the division," one fan shared on social media.
"Do it cubs," another fan posted.
"Make them non-casual! Let’s go Jed! Could use more pitching while you’re at it," one more fan added.

The Chicago Cubs could face some stiff competition when it comes to signing Alex Bregman

It may come as no surprise, however, that the Chicago Cubs are not the only team linked to the All-Star third baseman. The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox are two clubs that have been heavily linked to Bregman and could present the Cubs with some serious competition when it comes to the Bregman sweepstakes.

The Detroit Tigers might be the No. 1 team with the most interest in Bregman as they look to revamp their lineup ahead of the new season. Detroit's lineup struggled to put up consistent production all season, and bringing in a star like Alex Bregman could be a game-changer for the team heading into the new year.
