New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez posted another solid campaign in 2024 to follow up his breakthrough 2023 season. The Mets backstop is now preparing for the next campaign and offered a glimpse of his exercise routine this offseason.

Francisco Alvarez shared a video montage of his training regime on Instagram. However, he was wearing a basketball jersey of NBA superstar Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics during the workout session.

The Instagram reel showed Francisco Alvarez taking part in a variety of exercise drills inside a gym. He donned a pair of black shorts and black trainers along with a Celtics home jersey belonging to Jayson Tatum. The video clip showed Alvarez working on various drills catered to meet the unique demands placed on a catcher in the major leagues.

The routine had various forms of simple cardio routines designed to build speed and stamina. It showed Alvarez conducting some stretching exercises that showcased his flexibility. The 22-year-old also carried out some weight training drills to work on improving the power he carries with his bat.

Alvarez showed his potential for developing into an elite power-hitting catcher after smashing 25 home runs during his rookie campaign in 2023.

Improved fitness should help Francisco Alvarez continue his progress in 2025

Although Francisco Alvarez produced a solid campaign in 2024, he only played 100 games during the regular season.

Alvarez missed two months of action due to a torn ligament in his right thumb, which he suffered while rounding first base against the Los Angeles Dodgers in April. He returned in June and remained one of the Mets' best hitters for the remainder of the season.

Eventually, he ended the campaign with a .237/.307/.403 slashline, marking a marked improvement in his batting average and on-base percentage. However, his power numbers dropped noticeably last year, getting 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. Nevertheless, he became a more consistent and productive hitter at the plate, improving his OPS+ by five points to 101.

Therefore, Alvarez should continue his development as the catcher for the New York Mets if he stays healthy for the season.
