The Kansas City Royals signed starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $7 million contract for the upcoming campaign on Wednesday. Lorenzen had ended the previous season with the Royals after he was offloaded by the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline.

Michael Lorenzen posted an Instagram story after the Kansas City Royals announced his move. He also uploaded a couple of video clips, giving fans a glimpse of his strength training preparation for the 2025 season.

Initially, Michael Lorenzen had shared the announcement from the Royals, which said that he's back for the 2025 campaign after completing a $7 million deal. The right-hander enjoyed a short but highly successful stint at the back end of last season as the team booked a spot in the playoffs.

A video clip showed Lorenzen working out at his private gym for a session to develop his full body strength.

One clip showed the pitcher completing a set of squats while lifting heavy weights on a barbell over his head. Another had him lifting a weighted bar while kneeling with one foot on a stack of weights and the other over a small bench.

As per the agreement between the Kansas City Royals and Lorenzen, the player will receive an annual salary of $5.5 million for the upcoming campaign. Besides having plenty of performance-based incentives, the deal includes a $12 million option for the next season, which the team could buy out for $1.5 million.

After completing his deal, Lorenzen told MLB Network that the deal makes sense for both parties and that he has high hopes with the Royals next season.

“I think that we’re going to win,” Lorenzen said. “Obviously, that’s another plus. I think they’re going to bring the best out of me, so I think it just makes sense in every direction.”

Lorenzen had started the 2024 season with the Texas Rangers after signing a one-year, $4.5 million contract. He enjoyed a decent spell with the then reigning World Series champions, who made mess of their tie defense and dropped out of the playoff race.

The 33-year-old joined the Kansas City Royals and helped them secure a postseason berth after losing more than 100 games the previous year. They went on to upset the highly fancied Baltimore Orioles in the Wild Card round before going down to eventual American League champions, the New York Yankees, in the Division Series.
