LA Angels outfielder Mike Trout was off to a good start this season before he suffered a knee injury. Trout has been out of action since April 29, when he last played against the Philadelphia Phillies. He underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on May 3.
In a latest update shared by Sam Blum of The Athletic, Mike Trout is "continuing daily rehab in Anaheim," but there hasn't been any increase in activity. It has been more than 6.5 weeks since the surgery but it seems Trout will spend more time on the injured list than expected.
In other Angels news, Chase Silseth, who suffered elbow inflammation, is on the path of returning and is scheduled to start a minor league game on Friday. Anthony Rendon is also increasing his running progression.
Manager Ron Washington doesn't want to rush Mike Trout's recovery
Following the injury, the 11-time All-Star started his rehab at Angels Stadium, where he first progressed to riding a bike and using an elliptical. According to an update shared on May 26th, Mike Trout said:
“I think getting me on the Ultra G is the first step. Once that happens, I think it could ramp up. They have a plan for me, but we’re not there yet. Just take it one day at a time and whenever it feels right, I’ll be out there.” [via MLB.com].
Once Trout ramps up his running activities through the Ultra G treadmill, the Angels will prepare a path to his major league return starting with live batting sessions followed up by minor league rehab assignments.
Angels manager Ron Washington looks forward to having Trout back but he doesn't want him to rush through anything.
“What team wouldn't be eager to have Mike Trout back,” Washington said. “So we’re very eager, but we want him back healthy. You don't want him back trying to play through anything. So we’ve just got to hold it down until he gets back.” [via MLB.com].
Before hitting the injured list, Trout was hitting .220/.325/.541 with 10 home runs, 14 RBIs and six stolen bases in 29 games played.
