On Monday night, all eyes will turn to Globe Life Park in Texas for the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby. The opportunity will give fans a chance to see the league's premier sluggers face off against each other.

Following a similar trend to previous seasons, there is a slight change. This year, the Home Run Derby will consist of three rounds, with the first two rounds lasting three minutes, and the final round being two minutes. After the first round, the top two hitters from each league will go ahead to play in the semi-finals.

The National League's lineup will play host to Marcell Ozuna, Pete Alonso, Teoscar Hernandez and Alec Bohm. Meanwhile. Gunnar Henderson, Jose Ramirez, Adolis Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr. will go to bat for the AL.

Coming into the affair, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson's 28 home runs lead the field of candidates, and account for the third-highest overall number of long ones in MLB this year. This year will be Henderson's first Derby appearance.

Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia is the only returning American League player this season. Last year, Garcia was eliminated by Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena 24-17 in the first round. Garcia enters Monday's competition with 17 home runs and a .211 batting average.

Perhaps the best chance for the American League at the 2024 Home Run Derby will come off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. This season, the Kansas City Royals shortstop's 125 hits lead MLB. Entering the showdown, he has hit .323 with 16 home runs.

The only returning member of the National League's Derby lineup is Pete Alonso. Last year, the New York Mets first baseman bowed out of the first round, losing to Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez. Alonso, a known power hitter, brings 19 home runs into this affair. Alonso previously won the Home Run Derby in both 2019 and 2021.

Finally, Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies is a possible dark horse candidate. Attending the first All-Star week of his career, Bohm's 33 doubles lead the NL. On the season, the third baseman has slugged .482 with 11 home runs.
