It’s a perfect opportunity for injured players to make a full recovery and be ready by the end of the weekend. Meanwhile, let’s look at today’s injury report, featuring Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s injury extension, Juan Soto's hand and Giancarlo Stanton’s comeback attempt.

MLB Injury Update - June 14

Let’s start with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ highly promising and expensive rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto

In the Kansas City Royals series, Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto left the field after pitching only two innings. He was later placed on a 15-day IL with a strained rotator cuff injury.

However, on Sunday, he was put on a 60-day IL, as per news shared by the club. In a corresponding move, they activated two right-handed pitchers, Brent Honeywell and Ricky Vanasco, possibly to assess the team’s rotation concerns.

It seems the Dodgers may have plans for Yamamoto in the postseason if he manages to get better by then.

Mookie Betts

Despite being selected for the Midsummer Classic this season, Mookie Betts might miss out on that chance. A day later in the same series against the Royals, Betts hurt his left field and has been on IL since. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported that Betts is now practicing catching with his left hand with real balls, Dave Roberts, the Dodgers’ manager, shared.

It’s a good recovery sign hinting at his speedy return. However, it’s unlikely to happen before the All-Star break.

Juan Soto

Another All-Star invitee, Juan Soto is struggling with a right hand injury, clouding his participation in Tuesday’s mega event. Soto suffered the injury last month during a sliding home attempt in the series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Soto is still bearing his hand pain. However, on a bright note, the Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone, made it clear that they have no issue with Soto’s All-Star participation.

Giancarlo Stanton

Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton was placed on IL with a left hamstring strain during the series against the Atlanta Braves last month. He wasn’t assigned any rehab as the slugger was planned to prepare with the Trajekt machine.

There’s no immediate plan to send Stanton to the minors for rehab, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported. Aaron Boone also shared that he’s been practicing hitting and baserunning drills, aiming to make a comeback after the All-Star Break, but maybe not immediately after.
