The 2024 Rookie of the Year race is heating up as some of the most exciting young players in baseball continue to put on a show for fans and experts alike. It's been an incredible season for many rookies across the MLB, with three first-time players being named to the All-Star team this summer. It's safe to say the future of the league is in good hands.

While the National League could come down to the final games of the season, the potential American League Rookie of the Year winner is looking a bit more clear. Prior to Monday's action, one player continues to separate himself from the rest of the pack.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser continues to make a case for himself as the favorite to win the prestigious award. It's been an impressive rookie season for Cowser, who now finds himself with a .247 batting average, 19 home runs and 57 RBIs over 124 games this year.

"Colton Cowser is slugging .727 (112 total bases in 154 ABs) in non-two strike counts this season, 9th best in AL; League Avg: .588. #Birdland," Inside Edge posted on X.

While these numbers might not jump off the page, his consistency at the plate, as well as his everyday opportunities, has allowed him to produce for one of the top clubs in the majors.

"Cy Ranch’s Colton Cowser homered off Hunter Brown. Cowser is probably the front-runner for AL Rookie of the Year," Ari Alexander wrote on X.

According to sports betting website DraftKings, Cowser is a -550 favorite to win the AL Rookie of the Year award. Even though there is still time for him to slow down, at this point of the season, he could simply walk away with the award without too much competition.

The other top rookies vying for the award are Austin Wells of the New York Yankees (+800), Wilyer Abreu (+2000) and Ceddane Rafaela (+2200) of the Boston Red Sox. Unless something changes dramatically, it looks like it's Cowser's award to lose at this point.

Colton Cowser could become the second consecutive Orioles player to win the AL Rookie of the Year award

If the race for the award remains the same by the end of the season, Cowser could be the second Baltimore Orioles player in a row to claim the AL ROTY crown. Last season, superstar shortstop Gunnar Henderson walked away with the hardware after dominating at the plate all year long.

If Colton Coswer can also claim the top rookie prize, it would not only help cement himself in the Orioles lineup heading into next season. But it all showcases why the O's have one of the most exciting young cores in baseball. It's a special time to be a Baltimore fan given the young talent coming up through the organization.
