The Houston Astros are reportedly interested in another Chicago White Sox starter other than lefty pitcher Garrett Crochet. Many of Houston's starters are currently injured, and the team is looking to find some reinforcements by July 30 to help it hold on to the top spot in AL West.
While Houston has been rumored to be in for White Sox's Crochet, there is a lot of competition for the ace, so the franchise is keeping an eye out for other feasible options as well.
According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, Houston is "actively considering" right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde as a possible option to bolster the squad amid the current resurgence. The White Sox could agree on a deal for him in case they don't move Crochet before July 30.
"Erick Fedde is another starter the Astros are actively considering; he is a stronger candidate for the White Sox to move if Garrett Crochet is not dealt," the MLB Network reporter posted on X Friday.
The 31-year-old pitcher has made 20 starts for the White Sox with a 7-3 record, an ERA of 2.98, a 1.11 WHIP and 104 strikeouts. He does tick all the boxes for Houston and could help it with its current starter crisis as well.
Astros eyeing Jameson Taillon as another option for a starting pitcher
The Astros are reportedly keeping tabs on Chicago Cubs righty James Taillon as another starter option. However, Houston may seemingly face some tough competition for the player as other teams are also interested in his services.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, Houston is interested in acquiring the 32-year-old from the Cubs before the July 30 trade deadline to help it get through to the postseason. Taillon has made 17 starts for the NL Central team this regular season, with a 7-5 record, 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 78 strikeouts.
The Astros' starting pitching options took a huge hit due to injuries even before the start of the 2024 MLB season. As of now, Cristian Javier, Lance McCullers Jr., Jose Urquidy and Luis Garcia are all on the 60-Day IL. Veteran pitcher Justin Verlander is also out but is expected to return to action soon.
