New York Mets owner Steve Cohen responded to criticism from fellow MLB owners regarding his spending, and he did not hold back. Cohen made it clear with this free agency that all he cares about is winning, no matter the cost. This ruffled the feathers of some other owners, who were unwilling to dig as deep into their pockets.

Having a financial advantage over other teams is a very underrated but ever-present part of the game. There is a reason teams that spend the most not only reach the playoffs, but make deep runs at the World Series championship. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, but they are exceedingly rare.

Starting 9 on Twitter posted a quote from Steve Cohen, which made it clear where he stands.

The MLB world has been divided over all of the spending, but now most agree it is better for the game. If there are no rules being broken, why should an owner not take any advantage they can? If the goal is to win, it will take a total commitment from every part of the team, including ownership. The New York Mets are looking to win and win big.

The New York Mets will have the highest payroll in MLB history in 2023, but that doesn't guarantee they can win. A recent championship run from the Washington Nationals proves that. However, with the assembly of stars on the Mets, such as Justin Verlander and Francisco Lindor, they are poised to win. There are a multitude of ways to win in MLB, and fans like seeing all of them.

The Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds are the the two main targets when fans complain about the owners' lack of spending. Neither team is competitive with any team that is genuinely trying to make the postseason in the MLB. The worst part is that based on their payroll, they aren't even really trying. Running a sports team like a business rarely creates iconic moments or earns goodwill from fans.

The New York Mets and their owner Steve Cohen are willing to do what it takes to win, and fans around the league support the strategy.

There isn't an exact science to building a championship team, but the Mets are in as good or better shape as other teams. They have an excellent combination of offense, pitching and experience that is so often needed.

The Mets will be a force to be reckoned with in 2023 thanks to their owner Steve Cohen's willingness to spend a historic amount.
