Mookie Betts is more than excited to team up with Mike Trout in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The two will share the outfield together for a stacked Team USA roster.
Speaking about the tournament, Betts couldn't contain his excitement. He revealed that playing with Trout was a big reason why he committed in the first place. Betts doesn't want to miss the opportunity to play alongside one of baseball's best.
"We don't get to share the field very often. Now, never. So, to be on the same side playing with him and all the other guys, really, it's going to be a lot of fun" said Mookie Betts.
Game recognizes game, and Betts has a lot of respect for Trout and the other guys on Team USA's roster. Mookie Betts will likely get the start in right field for Team USA, with Mike Trout in center for the World Baseball Classic.
He mentioned that the two don't share the field as often as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels are in separate divisions. They have an interleague rivalry where they only play each other a handful of times a season. That will change with MLB's new schedule for 2023.
How does Mike Trout and Mookie Betts' Team USA stack up against the rest of the field playing in the World Baseball Classic?
If we're comparing Team USA to the rest of the field, the one area they may lack is pitching. Their starting rotation will be headlined by Clayton Kershaw, Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn, Miles Mikolas, and Brady Singer. It's not the most intimidating group of starters, but it's an effective bunch.
It's going to be tough for opposing teams to get hits in the late innings against Team USA. Devin Williams, Ryan Pressly, Adam Ottavino, David Bednar, Daniel Bard, and Kendall Graveman will be a force to be reckoned with.
Team USA will have one of the best backstops in the tournament, with J.T. Realmuto behind the dish. They also have a stacked infield with Trea Turner, Nolan Arenado, and Paul Goldschmidt, just to name a few.
That leaves us with an outfield consisting of Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Cedric Mullins, Kyle Schwarber, and Kyle Tucker. This is a strong team from top to bottom. They'll surely be the team to look out for in the World Baseball Classic.
