Veteran slugger Mike Trout is having a great season for the Los Angeles Angels. Trout's return was widely anticipated and he's certainly living up to his name. While Trout's performance has been excellent, the Angels struggle to make ends meet.
Despite Trout's contribution, the Angels are sitting at the fourth spot in the AL West with a 10-16 record. Trout has been the bright spot for the team, but even the veteran slugger has been dealing with several issues at the plate.
It's not easy to stay consistent in baseball and Trout has witnessed some offensive challenges. According to Trout, his swing has not been great and there are times when he feels on and off with his performance.
“My swing’s not feeling so great. I’m not saying it’s pressing. It’s just consistency at the plate," Mike Trout said. "Ever since Boston (two weeks ago), I’ve been feeling good and then off and on again. As opposed to what I felt in the first two weeks of the season. Just trying to figure some stuff out."
It's been a hard week for the Angels after dropping seven of their last eight games and Trout's failure to perform affects the team in one way or another.
Mike Trout bears the burden for the team
It's evident that Mike Trout has been carrying the burden for the Angels since the start of this season. The Angels manager Ron Washington believes the same.
“He's putting too much pressure on himself and trying to put the team on his back," Washington said.
Trout has already carried the weight for the Angels. The 32-year-old is leading the league in home runs with 10. With a batting clip of .230, Trout has an OBP of .325 with an OPS of .905. The slugger has 13 RBIs and drove in 16 runs for the team.
Trout feels that it's one of those dull moments and will pick up the pace soon.
