Rookie third baseman Brett Baty didn't secure a seat on the Opening Day roster, the team announced Saturday, much to the bewilderment of a large portion of the New York Mets fanbase.
Baty and fellow rookie Mark Vientos were both offloaded to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the 2023 season.
"Infielders Brett Baty and Mark Vientos have been optioned to Triple-A. LHP Zach Muckenhirn, RHP Denyi Reyes, catcher Michael Pérez, INF Jonathan Araúz, INF José Peraza and outfielder DJ Stewart have been reassigned to minor league camp," New York Mets, Twitter
The 23-year-old Baty put together a strong run in spring training, where he posted an impressive .325/.460/.425 slash line with three homers and seven RBIs.
The decision to exclude the Mets' No. 2 prospect from the opening day roster has left fans enraged, with many flocking to Twitter to voice their displeasure with Billy Eppler and the organization.
This irritated New York Mets fan mocked the organization for placing faith in its veterans. The 36-year-old Darin Ruf is in his 11th year in the major leagues.
A larger mass will side with this fan's popular opinion, considering Baty's impressive form this spring training session.
