It wasn't a smooth day for New York Mets starter Max Scherzer. After sitting down the first six batters he faced, the Washington Nationals started giving him some problems.

He was called for a balk after trying to quick-pitch Victor Robles. He later had a double play erased as he failed to throw a pitch within the 20-second mark.

This is a pitcher's worst nightmare. He did everything he had to do to shorten the inning, except throw the ball on time. This had to have taken the wind out of Scherzer's sails.

Players are still testing out the limits of the pitch clock. Luckily, this happened in Spring Training and not in a real game.

"The pitch clock is so pointless... you're not going to get additional viewers reducing the game by 20 mins. If people want to watch baseball, they will. Market players better" one fan tweeted.
"Get rid of this" said another fan.

Some fans have been vocal about their dislike for the pitch clock. They think it is something that is ruining the game.

Fans want to see the pitch clock removed from the game. They think it is way too drastic of a change when they had no problems with the pace of the game.

New York Mets are getting stellar play from their prospects in Spring Training

The New York Mets were excited to see what Brett Baty could do last year. He handled himself well last season until he tore his UCL in his right thumb in late August. Now healthy, Baty is tearing it up in Spring Training, hitting .429 with a home run and an RBI.

Another prospect off to a hot start is infielder Ronny Mauricio. Mauricio is hitting .444 with three home runs and five RBIs. He has an astounding 2.056 OPS. Nobody in the MLB is having a better Spring Training than him.

These two players are guys fans will want to keep an eye on. If they keep playing the way they are right now, there is no way the New York Mets can keep them off the Opening Day roster.

The team is already a contender, but if their prospects keep this up, they may be unstoppable. Don't be surprised if this is the year the Mets go all the way and bring a World Series back to the Big Apple.
