New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson didn't have the season he, or the fans, were expecting last year. In 132 games, he hit .222/.308./.374 with 15 home runs.

His .222 average is tied for the lowest of his career. He just didn't see the ball well last season. Most managers would be out on a a struggling and aging player, but not Aaron Boone. Boone has some high expectations for the veteran slugger.

Boone has been adamant all offseason that he thinks Donaldson will have a better season in 2023. They'll surely need a better season from him for the Yankees to go the distance this year.

It wasn't just Josh Donaldson slumping last season. There were various points during the season where it seemed like the only player who could hit on the team was Aaron Judge.

"Boone, I think YOU are crazy to think there IS a bounce back in there offensively," one fan tweeted.
"Ohhhh boy. At 37? With his skill set? Ok," another fan tweeted.

New York Yankees fans were hoping the team could figure out a way to move on from him during the offseason. But not many teams are looking to overpay for an aging third baseman coming off one of his worst seasons.

There's not a lot of hope among the fanbase that Donaldson will figure it out this season. They think Josh Donaldson's best is far behind him.

If Josh Donaldson figures it out, watch out for the New York Yankees

The team is looking pretty solid heading into the 2023 season. They re-signed the reigning American League MVP, Aaron Judge. They also re-signed first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

One of the most impressive acquisitions the New York Yankees made this winter was bringing in Carlos Rodon. The Yankees will roll out a rotation of Gerrit Cole, Rodon, Luis Severino, Nestor Cortes and Domingo German.

They also have Frankie Montas, but he's been sidelined since getting shoulder surgery. There's a chance he could return to the rotation at some point this season, but that is yet to be determined.

One of the more under-the-radar players for this team is outfielder Harrison Bader. He only played in 14 games for the Yankees after being traded by the St. Louis Cardinals at last year's trade deadline. They're excited to get a full season from him.

The New York Yankees have the roster to make a deep run this year. If Josh Donaldson can bounce back, the team could be a real contender.
