The New York Yankees came up just short of completing a comeback victory against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. The Giants held on to a 7-5 win, but the game wasn't without its drama.

The Giants turned to closer Camilio Doval in the ninth inning while up three runs. Doval struggled, giving up a run on an Aaron Judge single. He found himself with the bases loaded and Giancarlo Stanton stepping up to the plate. Luckily for Doval, Stanton grounded into a double play to end the game.

It was a tough loss for the Yankees as the game was within their reach. It's never fun for fans to watch their favorite team lose games they should have won. If Stanton puts some lift on the ball that he grounded into a double play, then they win the game.

Part of the blame can be shifted to the bullpen, which gave up two runs in the ninth inning. The team went through six pitchers as Clarke Schmidt ran into some trouble in the fourth inning.

"Another year, another Stanton laser double play," one fan tweeted.
"Bullpen was rough today. King and Holmes didn't have it," another fan tweeted.

New York Yankees fans didn't enjoy seeing the performance from their bullpen on Saturday. The team will have to rely on the bullpen this year, especially with how many starting pitchers are hurt.

Fans also cited the team's lack of hitting with runners in scoring position. The Yankees went 3-11 with runners in scoring position. It's tough to win games when leaving that many on base. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo were the only two players to deliver when the team needed it.

Not All Was Bad for the New York Yankees on Saturday

Not everything was lost with the New York Yankees losing on Saturday. Prospect Anthony Volpe got the first hit of his MLB career. This will be the first of many in this young slugger's career. The shortstop went 2-4 with a run scored.

He's getting early comparisons to Derek Jeter, as both players singled through the left field side for their first hits. With his skills in the box and his elite speed on the basepaths, the future is bright for Volpe. Fans should keep an eye on him as he's capable of making a run at the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
