New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks has faced some tough criticism coming into the 2023 season. He didn't perform up to standards last year, hitting .216/.330/.313 with eight home runs
Fans have been calling for the team to replace him in the outfield. Voices have gotten even louder with stellar play from prospect Jasson Dominguez in Spring Training. Those voices will be even louder after watching this play.
Not sure whether he lost it in the sun or didn't know the field's dimensions well and thought it would push foul. But there's not much foul territory in the left-field corner. Anything that is hit to that corner is going to be in play.
It's a tough look for somebody who needs a big spring. This error will surely not help him win back any fans.
"This alone should lose him a roster spot," one fan tweeted.
"He's in mid-season form," said another fan.
New York Yankees fans are trying to figure out how Hicks is still on the team. The organization has the means to find another player to deploy in left field.
Fans want to see the prospects get their shot. Jasson Dominguez is tearing it up in Spring Training and looks capable of helping the big league squad. Through 20 at-bats, Dominguez is hitting .400 with four home runs and nine RBIs. The 20-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.
The New York Yankees need to figure out their outfield situation
New York Yankees fans who want to see the team move away from Aaron Hicks in the outfield may be in for some bad news. Outfielder Harrison Bader will be out for at least six weeks following an oblique injury. After getting some tests done, it was revealed that he had strained his left oblique.
Bader won't be on the team's Opening Day roster. This is a punch to the gut for the Bronx Bombers. He missed time after being traded from the St. Louis Cardinals at last year's trade deadline.
When Bader ultimately got into the lineup last season, he put on a show, especially in the postseason. He hit three home runs in the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians and two in the ALCS against the Houston Astros.
This is one player the team needs in the lineup. He's a spark plug both offensively and defensively.
