New York Yankees prospect Jasson Dominguez is crushing it in Spring Training. He's hitting .421 with four home runs, nine RBIs, and a stolen base.
He's been a bright spot for a team that has been riddled with injuries. Harrison Bader is the latest player to hit the IL for the team with an oblique injury. With Bader down and Dominguez crushing it, will we see the young slugger on the Opening Day roster?
Dominguez is one of the team's most hyped prospects. He is one of the top international prospects eligible to sign with an MLB team in 2019. The Yankees signed him on July 2nd, 2019, with a $5.1 million signing bonus.
He has excellent power, a great arm, and speed on the basepaths. Many around the league have touted him as the next great.
"Volpe. Dominguez. On the team. Starting. Hicks, IKF goodbye," one fan tweeted.
"He's ready. I've seen enough," said another fan.
New York Yankees fans are hammering the front office to put him on the Opening Day roster. They think he's more than ready to compete at the highest level, especially with Bader's return up in the air.
Being only 20 years old, he still has a ton of time to develop. Fans should feel good about the future of the Bronx Bombers.
Injuries could force the New York Yankees' hand
The injury bug has bitten the New York Yankees early this season. They have four right-handed pitchers starting the season on the IL.
Reliever Lou Trivino will be out until at least May with a mild elbow ligament sprain. Tommy Kahnle, another relief pitcher, is dealing with bicep tendinitis.
The bigger hits come from their starting pitchers, Frankie Montas and Carlos Rodon. Montas will miss time after he underwent shoulder surgery in February. The team is hoping for a second-half return from Montas. Rodon, who the team signed in the offseason, is dealing with a forearm strain. He'll shut down throwing for over a week and start back up and see how he feels.
The Yankees' latest injury comes from outfielder Harrison Bader. Bader is dealing with an oblique injury, something that isn't always easy to manage. If something derails Bader's return, could we see the front office call up Jasson Dominguez?
While he's young, you can't overlook what he's done so far in Spring Training. He'd bring a ton of fans to the ballpark.
