The New York Yankees are the most valuable team in Major League Baseball, according to Forbes, coming as no surprise to many. They are valued at $7.1 billion, an 18% increase from last year.
The second-closest team to the Yankees is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are valued at $4.8 billion. It's an 18% increase from last year for them as well.
Following the Yankees and Dodgers are the Boston Red Sox, valued at $4.5 billion, and the Chicago Cubs, valued at $4.1 billion. On average, MLB teams have seen their team value increase by 12% from last year.
That's great news for the sport of baseball. That means more fans are tuning in on television, and more fans are showing up at the ballparks. Baseball is hot in the streets.
"Doesn't help if we don't use the money right," one fan tweeted.
"And yet the Mets are outspending us," another fan tweeted.
While it's great to be the highest-valued team, New York Yankees fans want to see that money being put to use. They want to see their team reach a World Series, something they haven't done since 2009.
Fans don't understand how, while the team is valued so highly, it has guys like Josh Donaldson and Aaron Hicks on their roster. They want to see the Yankees build a super team.
Could this be the year for the New York Yankees?
The New York Yankees have addressed nearly every box they needed to over the offseason. They re-signed both Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge to remain in the middle of their order. Losing either of those guys in free agency would have killed their offense.
They also signed one of the best left-handed pitchers in the league during the offseason. Carlos Rodon will operate as an ace behind Gerrit Cole. Rodon is coming off two of the best seasons of his career, and that trend will likely continue.
The front office is excited to get a full season from Oswald Peraza, who they have already named the opening day shortstop. He'll be an upgrade over Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who struggled for much of the 2022 season.
The Yankees have the talent to win the division once again and make a run in the postseason. They will be a team that fans will want to keep an eye on over the course of the season.
