New York Yankees fans react to team sending Jhony Brito down, can't be called back up until April 18: "Then maybe just don't send him down?"

Jhony Brito was spectacular on the mound in his MLB debut with the New York Yankees. He blanked the San Francisco Giants, pitching five innings of shutout baseball with six strikeouts in a 6-0 victory on Sunday.

It came as a shock when the team announced that it was optioning him down to Triple-A. How can the team send a pitcher down after shutting out another team?

The Yankees aren't sending him down because of his performance. They're sending him down because they won't need him for a bit. The Yankees can stick with their four-man rotation for the next series and add some bullpen help by optioning Brito.

That's exactly what the team is doing. Ian Hamilton has been called up to help add an extra arm to the bullpen. Until the team needs Brito again, he'll stay down in the minors.

"Then maybe don't send him down?" one fan tweeted.
"Common Boone L," another fan tweeted.

Some New York Yankees fans aren't happy with the move, but the move makes sense. If the team hadn't called up Ian Hamilton by April 4, it would have lost him.

Hamilton came to the Yankees camp as a nonroster invitee and performed well in spring training. In nine innings, he kept his ERA at zero. He previously spent time with the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins.

The New York Yankees have looked dominant early on

The New York Yankees have gotten off to a good start. Heading into Tuesday, they have a 3-1 record, coming off an easy 8-1 win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

Scoring runs hasn't been a problem for this team. They've scored at least five or more runs in all four of their games so far. Guys like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres have been seeing the ball well early on, as both players have two home runs apiece.

Anthony Volpe, who was a surprise to make the opening day roster, has been great, especially on the basepaths. He's 3-for-3 on his stolen base attempts. If he can get on base, he may be a player to watch for the stolen base title.

The Yankees have two more games against the Phillies before they travel to take on a divisional foe, the Baltimore Orioles. This is an excellent opportunity to put some distance between them and the Orioles in the division.
