Although the New York Yankees have some of the best offensive and pitching arms in baseball, manager Aaron Boone has thus far given his big names a rest. This has been a great opportunity for fans to see some of the team's younger talent showcase their abilities.
On the last day of February, the Yankees welcomed the Tampa Bay Rays to their home facility, George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The contest ended up being nothing less than a complete unraveling of one of baseball's most highly-rated teams.

Getting the start on the mound was New York Yankees prospect Sean Boyle. Boyle, 22, was drafted by the team in the 25th round of the 2018 draft. He spent last season between Triple-A and Double-A, amassing an ERA of 3.71 over 155 innings.
Boyle lasted three innings and gave up a first-inning two-run homer to Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Luke Raley. The 2-0 score stood until the seventh inning, when Yankees pitcher Tyler Danish entered the game. Danish made 32 bullpen appearances last year for the Boston Red Sox and signed a minor league deal last December with the New York Yankees.
Danish gave up a pair of RBI singles and failed to record an out as the Tampa Bay Rays took a 6-0 lead. Two of his baserunners scored, crediting Danish with six earned runs in the seventh inning.

Yankees fans were also keen to get another glimpse at young Venezuelan infielder Oswaldo Peraza. Peraza, signed as a 16-year-old with the Yankees in 2016, appeared in 18 games last season, hitting .306/.404/.429. Peraza started the game at second base and went 1-for-3.
The shortstop position for the Yankees is up for grabs. Peraza's name has been floated as a potential alternative to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who came to the Yankees alongside Josh Donaldson in a trade with the Minnesota Twins last year.
The New York Yankees will see a lot more of the Rays this year
Although the new MLB format is set to give way to a more varied schedule, the Yankees will still see other AL East teams like the Rays more frequently than other teams. Losses in the regular season to divisional foes like this will not bode well if the New York Yankees want to hold onto their division crown.
