After a rare one-day break, the New York Yankees will resume their opening series against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
Despite their pitching staff contending with some early-season injuries, five-time All-Star Gerrit Cole was able to throw six shutout innings in which he gathered 11 strikeouts. Home runs from Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres paved the way for the New York Yankees to a 5-0 victory.
As for the Giants, the team will be looking for their first win of the season after registering only four hits in Thursday's contest.
San Francisco Giants projected lineup
The Giants have slid a long way down from where they were a decade ago. Now flanked by highly competitive teams like the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, the team will have to come up with some spectacular tricks to get ahead of them.
Michael Conforto was one of the few Giants to register a hit on opening night. The 30-year-old outfielder signed a two-year deal with the Giants this past offseason. Conforto's last MLB season came in 2021 as a member of the New York Mets when he hit .232./.344/.384 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Getting the nod on the bump for the San Francisco Giants is expected to be Alex Cobb. Cobb is entering his 12th season in the big leagues and posted a 3.73 ERA and a record of 7-8 with the Giants last season. Although Cobb was given the green light to pitch, the 25-year-old has been reported to be dealing with knee issues.

New York Yankees predicted lineup
The New York Yankees opened up their season exactly the way most expected them to. Aaron Judge, who set a single-season home run record in 2022, wasted no time taking Giants starter Logan Webb deep in his first at-bat of the season.
One of the biggest stories for the New York Yankees on opening day was their rookies. 2019 first-rounder Anthony Volpe made his first career MLB start at shortstop. Although he went 0-2 with a walk, Volpe appeared to be more than comfortable in the big-time setting.

Starting on the mound will be Clarke Schmidt. With only 34 appearances over the past three seasons, Schmidt represents a gamble. Injuries to Frankie Montas and Carlos Rodon have hampered starting options for the New York Yankees. Many were also expecting Nestor Cortes to start the fixture.
