The New York Yankees are looking to strengthen the outfield in the offseason after failing to bring back Juan Soto as he signed a record-breaking $765 million deal with cross-town rivals Mets.

After losing out on Juan Soto, despite his strong fanfare in the Bronx after a stellar 2024 season with the Bronx Bombers, Yankees fans are wary of negotiations for other players in the offseason.

One player who has emerged as a prime candidate for the Yankees is Chicago Cubs' All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger. According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, the Yankees are in talks with the Cubs over a trade for Bellinger. However, the salary negotiations between the two teams for the player, with two years left on Bellinger's contract, is delaying a potential trade

Fans reacted to the news of the Yankees' pursuit of the former AL MVP.

"No more Soto drama, time to improve the team," a Yankees fan wrote.
"Hector you just ruined my day," a rival fan wrote.
"Cubs should be paying at least 10M don’t see how they have any leverage in this," another fan wrote.

Several fans lashed out at no progress in the reported negotiations.

"Cool so nothing has changed. Should have saved your time and effort," alleged a fan.
"Wait.. this is the exact same information we have had for days. What’s the point in repeating it today like it’s new news?"
"So the same it was 48 hours ago," wrote another fan.

According to Hector Gomez, Bellinger is guaranteed $52 million over the next two years and the Yankees want the Cubs to pay $10 million of his salary as part of a potential trade.

Cody Bellinger can be a versatile addition for the Yankees after missing out Kyle Tucker

Cody Bellinger could be a potential replacement for Juan Soto in the outfield. The former Los Angeles Dodgers star can also cover first base with the Yankees needing a reliable infielder after the departure of first baseman Anthony Rizzo following the 2024 season.

The Yankees were also linked to a move for Houston Astros' Kyle Tucker. However, the Bronx Bombers decided against sending AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil in exchange for the outfielder as Tucker signed for the Cubs earlier this week.

It remains to be seen if the Cubs budge on the Yankees' terms for Bellinger, given the latter's requirement of powerful bats to make up for Soto, who hit 41 home runs last season.
